Summary - Biographical information; fish gutting; baiting short lines and great lines; shares in fishing boats.

The working conditions, clothes, pay and living conditions of Eyemouth fishgutters in Yarmouth are described. The girls sang Sankey's hymns while they worked. Daisy Aitchison worked in a kippering factory after she was married, and also baited inshore lines with mussels and coiled them into grass-lined baskets. Eventually she and her husband saved enough for her husband, a fisherman, to buy his own boat, the Fortunatus.

When the catch was sold, one share each was assigned to the crew members and three to the boat. Later, when there was more expense, six shares went to the boat. The engineer and the fireman were on fixed pay. In great-line fishing, herring was used as bait.
